The Smithsons
Waldon and Ruby Smithson have lived here in Franklin for a long time and have a great story to tell. Mr. Smithson came to Williamson County from Cannon County (Gassaway, TN) in 1924 when his father took a job as a farmer in Rudderville. Ruby grew up an Allen in Leiper’s Fork. They married 68 years ago and are unaware of anyone in the county that have been married longer. The secret, they say, is to give and take in marriage, knowing that either spouse can be right or wrong in conflict. Mr. Smithson had two careers that spanned 42 years, first with Dorch Stoveworks and then with Mid-State Steel. Proud parents of two sons and several grand and great-grandchildren, the Smithsons are a blessing to those who know them and a part of Franklin’s rich heritage.
